About Health Policy and Management

The DeGroote PhD in Health Policy and Management emphasizes both research and the application of management and evaluation techniques. It’s designed to produce highly motivated and capable researchers and practitioners. It prepares students to undertake and disseminate original research and to make significant advances in the field. 

It aims to attract applicants who wish to pursue specialized careers in academia or senior-level management positions within the health care industry. 

This field of study offers both full- and part-time options.

Students may be required to take additional courses depending on their background and the recommendation of their supervisor. 

Dr. Jenna Evans studies multiteam systems and inter-organizational networks in healthcare using qualitative methods. She leads three inter-related streams of research on teams and networks focused on: (i) performance management, (ii) shared cognition, and (iii) organizational context and capabilities. She has a particular interest in the use of teams and networks to deliver integrated care to patients with complex needs. 

Jenna Evans

Associate Professor , Health Policy and Management

Professor Randall specializes in health policy and strategic management. Professor Randall’s research interests include the impact of health care restructuring on health professionals, the privatization of health care services, business-government relations, and governance and strategic management in the not-for-profit sector. His current research is in the area of long-term care reform and the impact that employer profit motive has on the autonomy of health professionals. 

Glen Randall

Professor , Health Policy and Management

Amy Sommer completed a Post Doctoral Fellowship at Harvard University, and a PhD at Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario. She specializes in teams and leadership in healthcare management. Her research investigates how to enhance performance, resilience, and creativity during crisis situations. In order to advance theoretical understanding of this complex phenomena, she is exploring and developing new research methods to study leaders and teams, including crowdsourcing science for large-scale data collection and data analytics.
