DeGroote School of Business

Fees and funding

Tuition fees

Total tuition fees for the 2024-25 academic year are $6,307.20, amounting to $2,102.40 per term. This fee applies to full-time domestic and international students.

Financial support

The DeGroote School of Business guarantees each full-time student a minimum of $34,000 of funding per year in scholarships, teaching assistantship and research assistantship positions for 4 years in the program. There is further financial support for those who continue to demonstrate exceptional academic performance and research contributions via merit-based funding opportunities available for students in years 5 and 6.

Many PhD students from DeGroote have also secured generous government scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) as well as earning Ontario Graduate Scholarships (OGS).

When a student receives a major external scholarship, their graduate scholarship funding will be adjusted for that academic year. This adjustment ensures a fairer distribution of funding among all graduate students. DeGroote School of Business informs students about this adjustment policy in the PhD Program Student Handbook and when they are awarded an external scholarship. The program aims to ensure that students are always better off after receiving a major external scholarship, even with the adjustment.

Resources for PhD candidates

Students in our program can also take advantage of the following:

  • $4,000 for travel expenses related to attending conferences (e.g., presenting papers, job market) provided by the Dean’s Office throughout the program
  • $1,000 for thesis-related expenses (e.g., data collection, specialized software, participant survey compensation) during the program
  • A dedicated study space (cubicle) in a secure room with fellow PhD students
  • A department-provided laptop to use throughout the program
  • Access to required software (SPSS, AMOS, and STATA SE) for coursework, paid for by the department
