Biography

Educational Background

  • Ph.D. Candidate in Business Administration (2022-Present): DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, Hamilton, Canada.
  • Master of Business Administration in Finance: Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia
  • Bachelor in Management: Arba Minch University, Ethiopia

Research Interests: Toli Amare’s research focuses on the unique overlap between migration and entrepreneurship. He is currently studying the entrepreneurial efforts of returnees in Ethiopia through qualitative research methods. Additionally, Toli works as a program development specialist with Reframery, a virtual incubator and NGO founded by his supervisor. Reframery supports entrepreneurial ventures in marginalized communities worldwide. Under Professor Benson Honig’s guidance, Toli is developing research insights from Reframery by analyzing interviews conducted with participants at various training stages.

Professional Experience: With a strong passion for teaching, Toli previously taught at Wolaita Sodo University in Ethiopia for several years before beginning his PhD program at McMaster University. His roles extended beyond teaching to include coordinating research projects, leading teams, and presenting findings, where he honed his skills in research leadership and communication.
