Biography

Bita Mehri is a Ph.D. Candidate in Information Systems at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, working under the supervision of Dr. Maryam Ghasemaghaei. Her research examines how artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies shape human judgment, decision-making, and organizational outcomes.

Her dissertation focuses on metacognitive AI in human-AI collaboration. Specifically, she studies how AI systems that demonstrate capabilities such as transparency, adaptability, and reasonability influence users’ advice utilization, perceptions of AI expertise, system causability, and reliance on AI-assisted recommendations. Her work contributes to broader conversations in explainable AI, trustworthy AI, behavioral decision-making, and the design of AI systems that support more effective human-AI collaboration.

Bita’s broader research portfolio includes projects on AI capabilities and firm performance, augmented reality in online shopping, digital transformation, business analytics, and technology-enabled consumer and organizational behavior. Across these projects, she is interested in understanding not only when digital technologies improve decision quality and performance, but also when they create new forms of uncertainty, bias, dependence, or miscalibrated trust.

Before joining McMaster, Bita earned an MBA in Marketing from Amirkabir University of Technology, where she ranked first in her graduating class. She also holds a B.Eng. in Civil Engineering and brings a strong engineering, quantitative, and analytical background to her research. Her undergraduate engineering studies began at the University of Tehran through Iran’s highly competitive national university entrance examination. This interdisciplinary background informs her research approach, combining behavioral theory, quantitative analysis, business insight, and a strong problem-solving mindset.
