Biography
Alena is a part-time doctoral student in Health Management through the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Life Science degree and a Masters of Business Administration in Health Services Management from McMaster University.
In addition to her studies, Alena works full-time as the Chief Strategy, Quality, Risk & Communications Officer at the Brant Community Healthcare System. She has healthcare executive leadership experience in strategic planning, patient safety, quality and performance improvement, risk management, clinical ethics, patient relations and communications and public affairs.
Motivated by her experiences as a hospital leader through the COVID-19 pandemic, Alena’s current research interest is leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic in acute health care settings, with a focus on resilience building.
Alena has sessional instructor experience at McMaster University, teaching Quality Management in Health Services (C736), and also has teaching assistant experience in Quality Management in Health Services (MHM 734) and Management Skills Development (COMM 3S03).
